building brighter futures

YOUTH BUILD

Through the federally funded Youth Build grant, GCTC youth have the opportunity to work with professional construction workers building homes from the ground up. Participants receive stipend for their work and are supported by a Retention Specialist throughout their program and transition.

Youth Build provides unique opportunities for youth to develop professional skill sets and gain hands-on job experience and emphasizes five core elements:

  • Education

  • Construction and other career pathways

  • Support Services

  • Leadership Development

  • Alumni Success

Each program participant is expected to spend a minimum of 7 weeks on the job site where they earn stipend for their work, while learning the valuable skills and trades that will help them achieve their professional aspirations.

Upon program completion, a Retention Specialist helps each youth secure employment or enroll in high school or a post-secondary program, then provides mentoring for up to a year after program completion.
