Admissions

 

Gulf Coast Trades Center serves at-risk adjudicated youth referred to us from counties throughout the nation. We serve male youth between 15 and 18 years of age who:

  • Are willing to participate in a personal interview and campus visit
  • Must be vocationally motivated
  • Must be willing to participate in a battery of tests and assessments to determine skills, functioning, and competencies
  • Must be able to demonstrate an ability to benefit from the vocational training offered
  • Must be referred from a state or county youth-serving agency

Recreation

 
Gulf Coast Trades Center offers:
 
  • A gymnasium with large electronic scoreboard
  • Olympic size swimming pool with certified lifeguards on duty
  • Enclosed weight room
  • Baseball and football fields
  • Outdoor covered pavilion
 
Through the Texas Association of Charter Schools, students participate in leagues and tournaments in the following sports:
 
  • Flag football
  • Volleyball
  • Baseball
  • Track
  • Basketball

Building Trades / Building Maintenance (BT1)

Our Building Trades program takes a multifaceted approach to developing young people. By combining intensive classroom instruction with hands on experience gained in our facility, students acquire a level of proficiency and professionalism that is unmatched by programs of its kind.

Upon completion of our Common Curriculum described earlier, students begin to focus their training through course offerings specializing in the Building Trades & Building Maintenance field’s.

Our Bricklaying Masonry program takes a multifaceted approach to developing young people. By combining intensive classroom instruction with hands on experience gained in our laboratory facility, students acquire a level of proficiency and professionalism that is unmatched by programs of its kind.

Upon completion of our Common Curriculum described earlier, students begin to focus their training through course offerings specializing in the Bricklaying and Masonry field.

Automotive (AT)

Our Automotive Technology program takes a multifaceted approach to developing young people. By combining intensive classroom instruction with hands on experience gained in our automotive shop, students acquire a level of proficiency and professionalism that is unmatched by programs of its kind. This course teaches students about the parts and systems used in automobiles and how to properly maintain and fix them. Students will learn about the necessary tools that are used on the job daily.

Upon completion of our Common Curriculum described earlier, students begin to focus their training through course offerings specializing in the introduction to shop safety, basic and tool safety, pneumatic/air tool safety, the use/handling of hazardous materials and flammable liquids, tires, custom detail, and general automobile maintenance.

Culinary Arts (CA)

Our Horticulture program prepares our students to become employed in an industry that contributes over 25 billion dollars to the United States economy every year.  By combining intensive classroom instruction with hands on experience gained in our greenhouse facility and campus, students acquire a level of proficiency and professionalism that is unmatched by programs of its kind.   Students will receive a certificate of 720 hours of hands on training in Horticulture and their Junior Master Gardeners Certification.
